Before you bid

Carolina Auction & Realty is an auction house site source. A few things resellers get caught by with this kind of source:

  • No unified search. Every house’s site is its own island. You have to follow each one separately, which is the fragmentation Lotvara exists to solve.
  • Uneven site quality. Smaller houses’ own bidding software can be clunky in the last seconds of a sale.
  • Registering every time. Expect to set up an account and payment details fresh with each new house.

Every source sets its own fees, registration and pickup rules, so read them on Carolina Auction & Realty’s own site before you bid.

NC State Surplus Property Agency

NC State Surplus

Anyone can browse the public bid site, but bidding needs an approved account: one account per person, with a residential address (per the state's bid guide). A bid in the last two minutes extends the clock by two minutes, and the site's terms say a bid can't be edited or withdrawn while an item is on bid, so treat every bid as binding. The Raleigh store, warehouse and vehicle lot run Monday through Friday, and the warehouse uses a morning lottery for entry (line-up from 8:45 a.m.; see the entry-process link). Not confirmed: whether searching closed auctions needs a login. The surplus.nc.gov address didn't load for me, so use the state's own bid-site link.

Raleigh warehouse selling shelf pulls, overstock and customer returns through an online auction catalog (lots were posted with September 2026 dates when checked). Check each lot's pickup details.

Buyer’s premium: 15% buyer's premium plus a $1 lot fee, unless a specific auction says otherwise, and a possible 3% card fee. A $100 winning bid is $115 plus $1 per lot, before any card fee. Source: their terms of service

City of Raleigh surplus

Raleigh, Wake County · 4.3 mi away

Government surplusNC State Surplus

Uses GovDeals, check back.

The city's page says surplus goes to GovDeals, and some items to the NC State Surplus site instead. The main link runs the city's own Raleigh search on GovDeals. On GovDeals, agencies show in the seller-name dropdown, and a name missing from it means nothing is offered right now.

Town of Cary surplus

Cary, Wake County · 4.6 mi away

Government surplus

Uses GovDeals, check back.

The town's page says it sells most surplus equipment through GovDeals and the NC State Surplus site. Look for Cary in the seller list. On GovDeals, agencies show in the seller-name dropdown, and a name missing from it means nothing is offered right now. Found and seized property is auctioned separately by the Police Department.
